Bio Dr. Dalsing is the Director of Vascular Surgery and became the first in 1987 with its creation as a Division of Surgery. He is also the first E. Dale and Susan E. Habegger Professor of Surgery at the Indiana University School of Medicine which was initiated in 2004. He was born and raised in a small rural town in southwestern Wisconsin, Kieler, and many of his large family still resigns near there. He attended St. Mary’s College in Winona, Minnesota (B.A in Biology 1974) with matriculation to The Medical College of Wisconsin and M.D. degree obtained in 1978. IU provided his General Surgery training (1983) with Northwestern providing continued experience in Vascular Surgery (1984). He is board certified in General Surgery, Vascular Surgery and Surgical Critical Care. Dr. Dalsing joined the Indiana University faculty as an Assistant Professor in 1984 and became Director of Vascular Surgery in 1987. He rose through the ranks to become full professor in 1994. He obtained AOA recognition (1988). Dr. Dalsing initiated the IU Independent Vascular Surgery Training Program in 2000 and the IU Integrated Vascular Surgery Training Program in 2008. He is Medical Director of the IU Health Non-invasive Vascular Laboratory, which has been accredited since 1993 under his direction. Dr. Dalsing has a long and distinguished career in academic medicine. He has been president of the Indiana Chapter of the ACS and Chair of the Board of Governors’ Committee on Socioeconomic Issues. He has been president of the American Venous Forum and the Midwestern Vascular Surgical Society. He is currently president of the Association of Program Directors in Vascular Surgery. He is a member of numerous prestigious surgical societies including but not limited to the American College of Surgeons, Society for Vascular Surgery, American Venous Forum, Central Surgical, The Society for Clinical Vascular Surgery and the Midwestern Vascular Surgical Society. He has given over 200 medical presentations throughout the world including Japan, Australia, South America and Europe. He has over 130 peer-reviewed journal articles in press, has written over 35 book chapters and reviews for most major vascular surgery journals with tenures on various editorial boards. Dr. Dalsing provides the complete spectrum of vascular surgery care including best medical treatment in addition to endovascular (percutaneous) and open procedures when required. He has a special interest in end-stage venous disease, stroke prevention (carotid surgery), salvaging limbs when others might not offer more advanced options and complex aortic surgery (aneurysms or occlusive).
