| Bio | James Dunn, M.D., is Board Certified in internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine. Dr. Dunn loves learning about patients and teaching them how to take care of and manage their health. Dr. Dunn’s father was a biochemistry professor who taught medical school; because of this, Dr. Dunn was drawn to science and medicine early in life. While attending medical school, Dr. Dunn had the honor of working with Dr. Jean Wilson, a well-known endocrinologist at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School. Dr. Wilson’s guidance and influence made Dr. Dunn realize that he wanted to specialize in endocrinology. Some of the most common conditions Dr. Dunn treats patients for include diabetes, thyroid, pituitary, adrenal and parathyroid disorders, sex hormone complications, and osteoporosis. Dr. Dunn was born in Boulder, Colorado and grew up in Memphis, Tennessee and Abilene, Texas. He had the privilege of living in Thailand for two years before returning to Texas to complete his undergraduate degree in chemistry at Abilene Christian College. Dr. Dunn completed his medical degree at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, his residency in internal medicine at North Carolina Memorial Hospital in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, and his fellowship in endocrinology at the National Institutes of Health in Maryland. Upon completing his fellowship, Dr. Dunn became a clinical associate of endocrinology at the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development at the National Institutes of Health. From there, Dr. Dunn returned to Texas to serve as an endocrinology professor and associate program director of clinical research at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. During this time, he published more than 30 scientific articles on topics ranging from hormones and steroids to diabetes treatment and management. Dr. Dunn also has more than 20 years of experience as a practicing physician at clinics in San Antonio, Abilene, Texas and Bowie, Texas. Dr. Dunn moved to Fort Worth from Bowie in 2012 to join the USMD team. He and his wife, DiAnne, have two grown sons. In his free time, Dr. Dunn enjoys reading, traveling, music and spending time with family. |
