Coventry is a health insurance corporation based in Bethesda, Maryland, that was founded in 1986. The company has approximately five million enrollees across all fifty states.1 Coventry offered products in the Medicare market, individual and family health plans, Medicaid plans, worker’s compensation plans, and other insurance products.
Coventry was acquired by Aetna on May 7, 2013. Together, Aetna and Coventry have 22 million members in the United States. In 2012, Coventry had $14 billion in revenue compared to $35 billion in the same year for Aetna.

Coventry Medicare Insurance
Coventry offers both Medicare Advantage health plans and Medicare Part D stand-alone prescription drug plans. Medicare Advantage plans provide Medicare Part A and Part B benefits and often combine them with prescription drug coverage and other benefits such as vision, hearing, or dental benefits. Medicare Part D are insurance plans that focus exclusively on medication coverage.
First Health Group was acquired by Coventry in 2005 and was then absorbed by Aetna when Aetna acquired Coventry. Other subsidiaries are Altius Health Plans, Summit Health Plan, and Vista Healthplan.
